Executive Protection

A planning discipline, not a presence. The objective is prevention, discretion and safe continuity of the client's activities.

Most of the Work Happens Before the Client Leaves

Executive protection is widely misunderstood as physical presence. In practice it is a professional discipline in which the physical element is the last and least-used layer. The work that determines the outcome is done in advance: understanding the client's pattern of life, assessing the environment, planning routes and venues, agreeing communications, and rehearsing what happens if something changes.

A well-run programme should be almost invisible to the people around the client, and almost unremarkable to the client themselves. Meetings happen on time. Journeys are uneventful. Arrangements at each location are already made before arrival.

Where a protective detail is engaged, it operates under a written mandate that states exactly what has been agreed, who holds decision authority, and where the limits of that authority lie.

The objective

Prevention, discretion and safe continuity of the client's activities.

What the Discipline Involves

Ten components that make up a properly constructed protective programme. Described here at the level a client needs to make decisions — operational detail is agreed privately, in writing.

01

Advance Planning

Every location, movement and meeting is worked through before it happens. Advance work is the single largest determinant of whether a programme functions.

02

Risk Assessment

Structured evaluation of the client's exposure and the environment, using lawful, client-provided and openly available information.

03

Route Planning

Primary and alternative routes considered against timing, congestion, chokepoints, medical facilities and safe stopping options.

04

Situational Awareness

Disciplined, continuous observation of the immediate environment, maintained without drawing attention to the client or the detail.

05

Communications

Agreed channels, call protocols, check-in schedules and a fallback when the primary method is unavailable.

06

Coordination

Working with the client's office, household, drivers, venues and event organisers so that arrangements match reality rather than the itinerary.

07

Contingency Planning

Pre-agreed responses to the realistic disruptions: medical events, vehicle failure, schedule collapse, unwanted attention, severe weather.

08

Secure Transportation Coordination

Where legally available, coordination of vetted drivers and appropriate vehicles, with defined pick-up and set-down arrangements.

09

Venue Assessment

Review of access and egress, reception and screening arrangements, seating and movement, and the practical emergency options at each location.

10

Emergency Procedures

Clear, rehearsed procedures for medical emergency, evacuation and reunification, written so that non-specialists can follow them.

On operational detail. This page deliberately describes method rather than technique. We do not publish tactical procedures, weapons guidance, counter-surveillance methodology or anything else that would assist a person seeking to defeat a protective programme. Detail is shared only with a client, under confidentiality, and only where it is necessary for their decisions.

A written assessment and a proportionate proposal, including what we recommend against.

Mandate & Briefing

Written mandate, agreed procedures, defined authority limits and a full briefing for everyone involved.

Delivery & Review

Execution to procedure, with debrief and review feeding the next cycle of planning.
